In a July 13/14 CBS News Poll the question was asked:
"What is your personal feeling about abortion? (1) It should be permitted in all cases. (2) It should be permitted, but subject to greater restrictions than it is now. (3) It should be permitted only in cases such as rape, incest and to save the woman's life. OR, (4) It should only be permitted to save the woman's life."

The response:
All cases: 25%
Greater Restriction: 14%
Rape, Incest, Woman's life: 38%
Woman's Life: 15%
Never: 3%

This is pretty amazing news. If you combine the last 3 numbers, that means 56%, a solid majority outside the margin (4%), opposes the abortion-on-demand favored by liberals and (most) Dems.

This is great news on the day President Bush is set to announce his nominee to the Supreme Court.

Some Democrats got on the Sunday talk shows today and said that the filibuster is on the table for the confirmation of the Supreme Court Justice. If that's the case, then the nuclear option for Republicans should be on the table too.

What was the point of the 'filibuster deal' made between those 7 Democrats and 7 Republicans back in May if those Democrats are not going to hold true to it. Now granted; I have not yet seen anything from those who were part of the deal that would suggest they would renege; but if they do, then it's going to push those Republicans who were on the fence even further into the camp of those in favor of eliminating the filibuster.

Janice Rogers Brown, would in my opinion, be the best nominee for the Supreme Court. First, and most importantly, she's a solid conservative. Second, she has already been confirmed by the Senate. If the Democrats do decide to try to filibuster her, then the question that must be asked is what has changed in the last 2 months that now makes her an unacceptable nominee? A Supreme Court seat opening up? That's pretty thin. Third, she was already part of the previous 'filibuster deal' and would be an easier sell to the Democrats who were part of it.

The President needs to fill this vacancy as soon as possible. If another seat does open up, it would probably only serve to undermine getting conservatives on the Court. Two more solidly conservative justices taking their aim at Roe need to be put on the Court before any Republican begins to kick around the word 'moderate'. And I don't believe it would be that tough a sell to the American people, especially after that recent eminent domain bullshit.

Everyone is preparing for the tough confirmation fight, why disappoint?

At least the United States is still a sane country in a crazy Western world.

Just the other week NASA confirmed that the globe was warming. However, NASA fell short of placing the blame for that warming on humanity.

The problem I have with global warming is not whether or not it exists; I've seen evidence that suggests both. The period from about the 10th century to the 14th century was known as the Medieval Warm Period because the Earth's temperature was significantly (by more than a degree) higher than it is today. Similiarly, the period from about the 14th century to the 19th century is known as the Little Ice Age because the Earth's temperature was significantly cooler than it is today. This would lead a rational person to believe that maybe, just maybe, temperature has a natural cycle; or maybe, even possibly, that we have little effect on it. Indeed, theories for the causes of the Medieval Warm Period and the Little Ice Age range from increased/reduced solar activity to the amount of cloud cover on Earth to where the solar system is in the Milky Way Galaxy. None of them blame fossil fuels and greenhouse gasses.

The problem I have with global warming is the sensationalist, liberal 'the world is going to end tomorrow' bullshit. And by the world ending tomorrow, they mean the Earth's temperature will increase 2 degrees in the next 2 centuries. That sounds like a crisis to me.

The U.S. Senate, the same institution that previously filibustered anti-lynching legislation to death, is set to pass a resolution which would acknowledge its failure to pass said laws when they were most needed.

Civil Rights is an interesting case to study because not 50 years ago, there was a moral debate in this country on whether black Americans deserved the same rights as white Americans, whether or not they could successfully function in American society, and whether or not they were even allowed to be lynched! Convoluted arguments were made, on the Senate floor and in the public sphere, to defend both segregation and lynching. But as time wore on, public opinion settled clearly against segregation.

Not 50 years ago abortion was made legal and a moral debate was sparked. However, this moral debate has ceased to die down and has only grown stronger with time. The moral debate which existed when abortion was made legal is still the moral debate that exists today.

Time has a way of showing us what is right and wrong. Lynching and segregation has been condemned in the eyes of history. Abortion, by virtue of the fact that the abortion debate has failed to fade, shows us that abortion too has been condemned in the eyes of history.
